Volunteers Needed!

Hi, I’m Jo Murphy, Executive Director for MMAP (Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program) we are seeking people who like to solve puzzles, enjoy meeting and working with people, who love a challenge, are familiar with computers and the internet, and are interested in helping other Michigan citizens in their area.

MMAP is a free, unbiased, volunteer-staffed service that assists Medicare beneficiaries who have problems or questions about Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Medicare Part D enrollment, Long-Term Care Insurance, and related issues. MMAP provides these services free of charge through the sixteen Area Agencies on Aging offices in Michigan.

MMAP counseling services can be provided to callers over the phone, at specific sites in the community, such as community centers, senior centers, churches, etc., or in-home visits. MMAP volunteers may assist older adults or individuals with a disability by helping to resolve problems and answer questions, explaining eligibility requirements, assisting in filling out forms or filing appeals, and resolving billing problems, among other issues.

Once a volunteer attends the Initial Training, s/he becomes a certified MMAP counselor. New trainings are scheduled periodically throughout the year. Counselors are trained, certified, and supported.

Other volunteer opportunities available are data input, filing, filling out forms, and other office-related tasks.

If you are interested in more information or wish to become a MMAP counselor, please contact your local Area Agency on Aging at 1-800-803-7174.
